Unknown Speaker 0:12
Hello, and welcome to the July 4 episode of the In The Den podcast. We got ourselves a doozy of a lineup. Here we are going to be going over the

Unknown Speaker 0:24
upcoming women's soccer season. We'll be talking about some notable players who went to NC State and then performed for the United States and Olympics or international competitions. And then we'll briefly be going over a

Unknown Speaker 0:40
pretty big run by NC State coach and legend Kay Yow in the 1988

Unknown Speaker 0:45
women's basketball Olympics. So

Unknown Speaker 0:49
you know, let's get straight to it. Let's begin with women's soccer.

Unknown Speaker 0:54
They did not do good last year, finishing second to last in the conference with four wins, 10 losses and four ties, with the only notable in conference tie being against Notre Dame. One, one. They have a 76.8%

Unknown Speaker 1:13
safe

Unknown Speaker 1:15
stat, 1.18 goals against average, which is high end in the conference, but they give up 1.07 goals per game, and have 15 total team assists throughout the season, which is one of the lowest in the nation. They did foul West against opponents, which is good, but this defense is going to be a new look, defense with starters, Taylor Chisholm, transferring to Auburn, Janet Okeke, transferring to Florida State. And page totally know who led defenders and assist and typed for second with most assist overall in team,

Unknown Speaker 1:57
with two is graduating on the offensive side. Starters, Hannah Jabril is transferring to Mississippi State,

Unknown Speaker 2:06
back up. Savannah Hutchins is going to text in them. Anica Warner, who tied for most goals with sophomore Jade Bordeaux, is graduated. Abby Hugh, middle finger, middle finger, middle fielders graduating. And I mean, that's everyone that's leaving. That is a lot. Some of the notable newcomers from the transfer portal is Daytona State Junior, Sophia farga, a defenser and defense are Willie Stoltz from Lenoir, Rhyne.

Unknown Speaker 2:43
Some notable income and freshmen include Emily Wong, a middle fielder from British Columbia. Chloe, Stanley, a think that's a center back from Akina, North Carolina, Maya, Lazaro, Winger from Tottenham, Hotspur youth, JC, Duda, Winger from New Jersey, Martina Cherubini and middle fielder from Italy, and Fane wedge Decker, a midfielder from the Netherlands.

Unknown Speaker 3:16
What she doesn't need to be a field of NC State wants to return to the NC double A tournament, the last appearance being in 2022 it fired head coach Tim Santoro and replaced him with Conference champion ECU head coach Gary Higgins, with five defenders and five notable offensive players gone. The Start 11 will look brand new, headlined by sophomore star, mana Nakata, Junior Ford, Jay bordello and senior goalie, Olivia pratipos. Rest of the lineup will be anyone's game.

Unknown Speaker 3:51
Some of the players I expect to see take that next big step include Brooklyn, Holt, a senior defender, Antonova masioto, a Ford sophomore, freshman, smartina sheribini and Maya westauro. Just I mean, that's primarily because they both hail from high end international Junior squads. No AS Roma and Tottenham Hotspur are both highly reputable in Europe, especially in women's soccer. But I digress, expectations for this team are as low as they can get, but ceiling is really as high as it can get, and I wouldn't give up on the squad just yet, even though things look pretty bad and their schedule is not the nicest to them, they do have a lot of players that are coming in. They got a brand new coach who is a proven winner with ECU. And they have a

Unknown Speaker 4:52
Sorry, I lost my words there. They have a they just have some proven players to Jay Bordeaux and.

Unknown Speaker 5:00
Nakata will be a prettibus, even though she's the senior, just with her last go around, she has proven, with that

Unknown Speaker 5:07
high save percentage and being winning top in the conference with goal against average, that she can help them win. It's just that most of our games are going to be like 10011,

Unknown Speaker 5:21
you know. So hopefully, if we can get a little bit more going on the offensive side and get new defenders who can come in and produce well, then this team should be good.

Unknown Speaker 5:32
And schedule, I mentioned that schedule was rough, but actually half of the in conference opponents did not appear in NC. W

Unknown Speaker 5:39
terminate, however, all of our state rivals did so Wake Forest, Duke UNC, they all went in, and I think they all did pretty good. Let me double check, yeah, North Carolina, Wake Forest, especially, those two were the

Unknown Speaker 5:58
final two in a championship UNC, one and Duke was a semi finalist. The last one was in Stanford, if you want to know. And six of the nine out of conference opponents did not make the NC double A tournament as well. All of our tough opponents, like, you know, the ones that didn't make it in, half of them are away so near about corner quarter of our games are going to be really tough out of me, away games with teams that have made it to the conference championships and tournaments before.

Unknown Speaker 6:35
So this season could go either way. It would just depend on what version of NC State we see we could be going back to that way, 2000 10s form, or we could end up this pretty bad trend. NC State has been going to women's soccer in the past few years. Some notable matchups to come and attend or watch James they open the season, or they don't open the season with James Madison. I think they open with a deficient to opponent,

Unknown Speaker 7:07
but one of the notable opponents heading into the season will be against

Unknown Speaker 7:15
James Madison, who won their conference at ECU, who also won a conference, Gary Higgins, our new head coaches, old team, which will be interesting to see how they look.

Unknown Speaker 7:27
They will be following that up with at Michigan State, which will also be rough. But I don't, I think they made it to, yeah, they made it. They did get knocked out by Duke, but they were able to beat Texas in the

Unknown Speaker 7:47
conference. I mean, not, I don't know why I keep saying conference, national tournament,

Unknown Speaker 7:53
you have

Unknown Speaker 7:56
V tech and Florida State back to back. Florida State will especially be tough since they took Janet Okay, away from us,

Unknown Speaker 8:08
and Virginia Tech did have a good run in the I think I'm thinking Virginia,

Unknown Speaker 8:19
yeah, okay. Virginia Tech also got knocked out by Duke. Look at that.

Unknown Speaker 8:25
Um,

Unknown Speaker 8:27
so we got a couple people have been beat by Duke. And speaking of that, we have, um, here October 26

Unknown Speaker 8:35
followed by UNC a Halloween. So make sure to come out and support the women's soccer team. I mean, they'll probably need it, but things are looking pretty good for them. All right,

Unknown Speaker 8:49
coming up next, we'll be talking about the

Unknown Speaker 8:54
Olympics, some notable players who have played for

Unknown Speaker 8:59
NC State, and then we'll briefly go over chaos 88 run with

Unknown Speaker 9:06
Team USA women's basketball, right?

Unknown Speaker 9:10
Let's get to it. You know,

Unknown Speaker 9:13
men's soccer for United States haven't always been great As of recording, they have played against

Unknown Speaker 9:24
Costa Rica and the CONCACAF semi quarter finals, and did beat them or to be playing Guatemala that night. So,

Unknown Speaker 9:33
you know, fingers crossed that they can actually win something, but they have had a couple of players that hailed from NC State.

Unknown Speaker 9:44
Pablo mastrioni represented Team USA in 2006 FIFA World Cup. However, he was suspended for three games after a red card incident against Italy, I believe in.

Unknown Speaker 10:00
You try to make it

Unknown Speaker 10:02
for the 2010,

Unknown Speaker 10:04
FIFA World Cup, but he did not make it, and now he is a head coach for Real Madrid.

Unknown Speaker 10:14
See he, yeah, he's still with Real Madrid. He,

Unknown Speaker 10:19
you had 65 appearances, but no goals. However, he has a defensive midfielder. So, you know, I wish they had more goals with um,

Unknown Speaker 10:30
soccer like more that's like they had more statistics.

Unknown Speaker 10:37
He,

Unknown Speaker 10:40
um, it's not much on him about his time NC State. He was part of that successful early, early 90s, late 90s NC State run.

Unknown Speaker 10:51
He also played in the MOS with Miami fusion,

Unknown Speaker 10:56
but and the Colorado Rapids, where he was also a head coach for a few years, but now he is with Real Salt Lake, and he's been with them, even though he did get his number retired with the Colorado Rapids.

Unknown Speaker 11:10
All right, the other notable guy is tab Ramos.

Unknown Speaker 11:18
Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 11:19
he is.

Unknown Speaker 11:21
He played with NC State, and then 9798

Unknown Speaker 11:26
and, okay, sorry. He was in the 80s. Mastrioni was in the 90s. Tab Ramos. He was born in Uruguay, but he managed to,

Unknown Speaker 11:38
what's the word, I think it was like, qualify for the Team

Unknown Speaker 11:43
USA even left NC State early to play for Team USA in the 88 Summer Olympics, where they missed out on the knockout they were stuck in a group stage, but because he helped NC State with their run to the national championship, and this even tied for goal sweeter in a conference in 1987

Unknown Speaker 12:09
he was,

Unknown Speaker 12:11
you know, he had a lot of success and qualifying matches for team USA in 1990 1998 and 2002 So he was someone that was frequently coming back in his 12 years, he made 81 appearances with eight goals, and in the professional league, he did jump around a little bit. He was with um,

Unknown Speaker 12:33
interesting eagles and Miami sharks of some smaller

Unknown Speaker 12:38
America American major soccer leagues,

Unknown Speaker 12:42
and his most notable time was spent with the

Unknown Speaker 12:46
New York Red Bulls when they were caught the Metro stars in the late 90s, early 2000s

Unknown Speaker 12:55
and now he is, or he has last been seen, on the soccer stage as an assistant coach for the New England Revolution. He's also been an assistant and head coach with the United States U 20 squad in the 2000 2010s.

Unknown Speaker 13:15
So I mean, hey, that's, that's some pretty good contribution overall. And I thought he hasn't done much since 2023

Unknown Speaker 13:23
I'm sure his name will come back around

Unknown Speaker 13:27
for team USA.

Unknown Speaker 13:29
All right, so some non

Unknown Speaker 13:34
men soccer players.

Unknown Speaker 13:38
Nate McMillan was an assistant coach for the redeem team in the 2008 2012

Unknown Speaker 13:45
Summer Olympics. He was, I don't think he was part of that. Wasn't part of any major run, I believe.

Unknown Speaker 13:54
Okay, no, he did win a national championship with

Unknown Speaker 13:59
them in 84 Okay, so he has had some major company contributions, because he was part of that 86 championship squad, and his number has been honored by the NC State wolf packs and the Seattle SuperSonics.

Unknown Speaker 14:14
He was a coach, an assistant coach, for the what's it

Unknown Speaker 14:22
called, The Olympics with, as I mentioned, a redeemed team and to designate and a 2012 Summer Olympics, where he helped them win goal twice, even though I don't think an assistant coach

Unknown Speaker 14:35
does much.

Unknown Speaker 14:38
Okay, that might, that might sound hateful. Okay, yeah,

Unknown Speaker 14:44
yeah, so he's okay. So he does have a important role with them, so I shouldn't discredit him too much, especially since he's NC State guy. But

Unknown Speaker 14:56
you know, he's had a lot of time.

Unknown Speaker 15:00
With you a couple years NC State, and then he had 12 years Supersonics jumped around as a coach, and is currently the assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers as of 2024

Unknown Speaker 15:14
his last head coach, instead, stint was in 2021 to 218, 23 with the Atlanta Hawks. You remember that year when I beat Duke and they helped Ben Simmons become basically irrelevant. He was the coach during that time.

Unknown Speaker 15:31
So, hey, look at that. It's pretty good females. Or is this the only female I have? I mean, everyone knows about the wake of legends like

Unknown Speaker 15:42
decky. I think that one is Sanford

Unknown Speaker 15:46
trying to think, Dang, this is a better look for me.

Unknown Speaker 15:54
Catherine Berkoff. Catherine Berkoff,

Unknown Speaker 15:57
you know, she

Unknown Speaker 15:59
has won a lot of gold medals, and she's

Unknown Speaker 16:05
she's really good at swimming,

Unknown Speaker 16:08
but you know, another

Unknown Speaker 16:11
sport that is has women that NC State's good at is a cross country and basically running as a whole. And one of the notable athletes in that division is Joan monoi. I don't know if I'm pronouncing that right. I think it's Benoy. She won gold in 1984 women's marathon for the Olympics, and she has also made some appearances helping to represent United States in United States marathon, such as Boston Marathon, where she had the fastest time by an American woman in that race for 28 years when she ran in.

Unknown Speaker 16:54
Think it was

Unknown Speaker 16:57
like 1980

Unknown Speaker 17:01
it was in the way 80s, I believe,

Unknown Speaker 17:04
when she did okay. Now 2019

Unknown Speaker 17:08
with her last time there, okay, no, no, no.

Unknown Speaker 17:12
This sounds really bad. I promise I've done research. I'm just trying to expand on what I have been making.

Unknown Speaker 17:19
1983,

Unknown Speaker 17:20
Boston Marathon, and

Unknown Speaker 17:23
I think that's two hours, 22 minutes and 43 seconds, which was the record for about 28 years. So she's really good athlete

Unknown Speaker 17:34
for North Carolina State, even though she's from Maine, it's interesting,

Unknown Speaker 17:40
but she helped them, NC, say, win a first national title and women's cost crunchy. And she also helped win gold in the 1984

Unknown Speaker 17:52
women's Yep,

Unknown Speaker 17:57
women's marathon running or women's marathon. The No,

Unknown Speaker 18:02
it is women's marathon. Okay, I wasn't sure if it was woman's marathon or the 3000 meter, because she also does some track and field doing the 3000 meters, since kind of the same philosophies can be applied to like the anything above, like, what

Unknown Speaker 18:18
is it like? 1200 meter and marathon running.

Unknown Speaker 18:25
All right,

Unknown Speaker 18:26
some other athletes, Michael machiavello,

Unknown Speaker 18:32
who is a wrestler, who represented Team USA in the 2023 Pan American Games, because remember, NC State's good at wrestling. I think there are five national championships, the most recent one this year, actually. So watch out.

Unknown Speaker 18:48
He dominated gold in the 92 kilogram division, which I think is just like 200 pounds.

Unknown Speaker 18:55
He outscored his opponents 31 to zero in three matches, and which, if you don't understand the scoring system, a traditional takedown, like getting them on the ground of 123,

Unknown Speaker 19:08
is two points. An escape from that is one point. And an outright win is six points total. You would score. It's like 10 to nothing, 11 to nothing, and then 10 to nothing in the gold, and also won national championship in NC, double A in 2018 for his weight class. So while the Pan American Games aren't that huge, still notable, he still is one of the best in the what's it

Unknown Speaker 19:37
called? The

Unknown Speaker 19:42
continent? The continent subcontinent.

Unknown Speaker 19:45
And, you know, he eventually, I think he will eventually, get his name called up to the Olympic team. But only time will tell on that.

Unknown Speaker 19:57
Some other ones I have listed, um.

Unknown Speaker 20:00
These are just some of them. Of course, you can't go without talking about Brian Frazier, who was the student athlete NC State, before an accident left him amputated with

Unknown Speaker 20:13
one leg. He had to use a

Unknown Speaker 20:18
where's this thing's called with the

Unknown Speaker 20:23
running blade,

Unknown Speaker 20:25
and he would go on to

Unknown Speaker 20:29
dominate the Paralympic Games with

Unknown Speaker 20:34
see 123,

Unknown Speaker 20:37
with about two

Unknown Speaker 20:39
gold medals in 2004 and 2008 with the

Unknown Speaker 20:44
four by 100 and a four by 400

Unknown Speaker 20:49
what's it called

Unknown Speaker 20:51
baton racing.

Unknown Speaker 20:54
Let's see his teammates was

Unknown Speaker 20:58
can't find his teammates, but none of them were NC State, so not super relevant.

Unknown Speaker 21:06
You did have a mini controversy with

Unknown Speaker 21:10
using Andrew Well, which was voided after there was no evidence.

Unknown Speaker 21:15
And

Unknown Speaker 21:18
he is also

Unknown Speaker 21:22
a uh, a prosthetist who will help to create and utilize the flex foot cheetah carbon fiber

Unknown Speaker 21:29
running blades, giving them to an Oscar Pistorius, who has gone on to win

Unknown Speaker 21:39
a lot of golds himself, going all the way from 2004 to 2012

Unknown Speaker 21:43
and 100 204

Unknown Speaker 21:46
100 meter races.

Unknown Speaker 21:51
And I think right now he is also a motivational speaker. So, you know, I'd recommend checking out his motivational speeches, because, I mean, he lost a leg and became a pretty good runner, and that's, that's really good. It's good for him, all right. So this one's sort of an honorable mention. I didn't really know what to do with this, but I thought this was interesting. Don't you feel remember a name, cravant, Charleston. He

Unknown Speaker 22:20
didn't have any major success when NC State in the collegiate level. He did not score in the

Unknown Speaker 22:26
ACC championship and did not qualify for NC double A in 2019

Unknown Speaker 22:33
but he did finish second place in the ACC for 2018 but did not make up to finals for 2018 NC double A, okay, 100 meter dash, I should

Unknown Speaker 22:44
kind of begin with that he finished

Unknown Speaker 22:51
second place in the NCC in 100 meter didn't make any NC double A finals,

Unknown Speaker 22:57
and did not qualify for anything in the ACC or NC double in 2019

Unknown Speaker 23:04
however, he was picked up by a tracksmith company to kind of be one of the representatives

Unknown Speaker 23:13
For the 2023 world Athletics Championships.

Unknown Speaker 23:20
Or,

Unknown Speaker 23:22
okay. Now

Unknown Speaker 23:24
this was to qualify for that he managed to defeat notable runners, Noah Lyles and Christian Coleman in 100 meter dash to qualify, but did end up losing in the initial heat.

Unknown Speaker 23:38
So this was like

Unknown Speaker 23:40
a crazy upset at the time when it happened.

Unknown Speaker 23:45
He,

Unknown Speaker 23:49
he only broke the 10 second barrier in 2022 and this race was in 2021

Unknown Speaker 23:58
no, 2022

Unknown Speaker 24:02
he, managed to make it to semi finals in the 2022 world athletic like 2022 World World athletics champions,

Unknown Speaker 24:11
and he did not Make it into the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, nor the 2022 2024

Unknown Speaker 24:25
where was it? Paris, Olympics.

Unknown Speaker 24:28
So it seems like his time running is about over, but it was like something kind of notable when I was doing the research, because I wanted to avoid the obvious with like the swimmers,

Unknown Speaker 24:39
and I found that he had some notable appearances, and I'll just kind of had to check it out. Was pretty cool upset story where he managed to

Unknown Speaker 24:52
beat Noah Wyles despite not running. Yeah, he ran 9.95 seconds. Bear.

Unknown Speaker 25:00
We beaten to do well, and

Unknown Speaker 25:04
that kind of concludes my mini segment on some notable athletes who have played for team USA as part of that July 4 episode. Now we're going to talk about NC State coach and legend Kay Yao and the second ever women's basketball Olympics, where she helped to

Unknown Speaker 25:22
bring out the gold and show that NC State can bring in some good stuff for the women's basketball program. And at USA, women's basketball is not something to be trifled with. So it wasn't really an uphill battle for Kay out and 1984

Unknown Speaker 25:43
the women's basketball team did manage to win gold pretty handedly. And you know, the expectations were set pretty high by women's basketball coach and legend Pat Summit, where Kay out was an assistant coach, but now, okay, yeah, I was taking over full time, and she does have some of the return in starters such as Teresa Edwards,

Unknown Speaker 26:14
who came from

Unknown Speaker 26:17
she's probably the team's best shooter and came out of Georgia. I don't think I need to know. Tell you where everyone came from

Unknown Speaker 26:25
and

Unknown Speaker 26:27
see

Unknown Speaker 26:35
couple, I guess that's the notable star that came out. And then some death players like a and Donovan

Unknown Speaker 26:43
Cindy noble,

Unknown Speaker 26:47
but hey, they were coming into us soul with

Unknown Speaker 26:53
some pretty high expectations, but we're ready to

Unknown Speaker 26:59
kind of make good with their promise of winning.

Unknown Speaker 27:05
Their starting five for most of the tournament included Katrina McClain, the Whedon score and rebounder, Teresa Edwards, as mentioned, Sydney Brown, who is a complimentary rebounder and block sweeter, Susie mccormasterio, who's probably the only consistent three point shooter, which in the 1980s did not mean much. But

Unknown Speaker 27:29
if you can shoot like you know, 50% and go one for two from the three, that'd be considered really, really good. I guess. I wonder if it really made it harder or easier to score like a 4050, 90 back then. I

Unknown Speaker 27:47
don't know. I'm going on a tangent here, um,

Unknown Speaker 27:51
because I don't think it would mean that you can make it,

Unknown Speaker 27:57
because in

Unknown Speaker 27:59
woman's NC double A, yeah, only one person is made in women's NC double A in 2004

Unknown Speaker 28:06
Kristen, I won ago. And in WNBA, only Alina del Don in 2019 when they won the national championship mystics, she won with them.

Unknown Speaker 28:21
Oh and Cynthia Cooper is here too. She won

Unknown Speaker 28:27
as a starter with 84 her and Edwards, they

Unknown Speaker 28:32
shared a group with some notable big dogs. You know that Eastern European Asian group with Yugoslavia, China and Czechoslovakia.

Unknown Speaker 28:44
Yeah, it's Czechoslovakia at the time. I think I'm thinking a different country, but we start with Czechoslovakia. One of the notable players from Czechoslovakia side, afana novakova,

Unknown Speaker 28:56
gives them the weed at halftime over United States. But you know, Team USA, they are just too powerful. It's really hard to beat them.

Unknown Speaker 29:13
Yeah, well, Ivana, no, fuck over. I don't know if marathon right finishes with 21 points and five steals with eight rebounds.

Unknown Speaker 29:23
It's just no match. Theresa Edward scores 24 points

Unknown Speaker 29:28
to assist, two rebounds, no two assists, two steals, and Katrina McClain complements him pretty well with 19 points and eight rebounds, three steals, although there isn't really much assistant going on, they were,

Unknown Speaker 29:45
it doesn't really matter, especially since they got more assist in Czechoslovakia and won a game 8781

Unknown Speaker 29:56
despite being down at halftime. I.

Unknown Speaker 30:00
All right, so

Unknown Speaker 30:01
up next in the group stage, Hugo swaffia

Unknown Speaker 30:07
Yugoslavia didn't really have much of a chance,

Unknown Speaker 30:12
you know,

Unknown Speaker 30:15
with both Teresa Edwards and project Gordon scoring 20 or more points, and although they didn't really have a dominant defensive game, there were still three assists. I mean, three steals. I don't know why I keep saying assists by Jennifer Gillum,

Unknown Speaker 30:33
two by Teresa with weather spoon. These are some other notable players on the roster. I should have probably given a little bit of everyone. Katrina McClain. I McClain, with 9.8

Unknown Speaker 30:44
points and nine rebounds, which is so close to a

Unknown Speaker 30:49
awkward double double,

Unknown Speaker 30:52
but doesn't matter. I beat Yugoslavia 101

Unknown Speaker 30:58
74 the only

Unknown Speaker 31:00
woman on Yugoslavia with a notable performance is so Donna golich. I don't know if I'm announcing that right, but we're just gonna go with it. 16.3 rebounds, assist, two steals,

Unknown Speaker 31:17
yeah, so

Unknown Speaker 31:18
they've already kind of qualified for the bracket, round, um, chaos team. Spoon, really good. I guess this isn't as much about chaos, it is the entire woman's but just know that throughout this, you know, K, I was just looking coaching this team and helping them just be winners, which is what USA and women's basketball it's all about, especially when they go against China, um, another Chinese player. I mean, not another Chinese another opponent almost gets a double double this time it's Shane Hayes,

Unknown Speaker 31:56
H, A, i, x, I A, if, um,

Unknown Speaker 32:01
you know, if I misspelled or mispronounced it, it's my bad but she scores 32.8

Unknown Speaker 32:06
total rebound, six some defensive

Unknown Speaker 32:10
and

Unknown Speaker 32:12
con Judy with five assists. That's the most I've seen from any team so far in this tournament. I guess we're not really big assist, people

Unknown Speaker 32:24
stand corrected. Teresa Edwards has five assists,

Unknown Speaker 32:29
and Katrina McClain has 27 points and 13 rebounds. Look at that double, double, 10 of them defensive against

Unknown Speaker 32:38
the Chinese team,

Unknown Speaker 32:42
Susie McConnell scores 18 with four system four steals,

Unknown Speaker 32:48
and Sydney Brown also gets three steals on them, so we're able to take care of business against them,

Unknown Speaker 32:56
to go on to the bracket stage, where we have the semi finals against the group B team Soviet Union, Like their group B,

Unknown Speaker 33:08
runner up, which?

Unknown Speaker 33:12
Hold on? I,

Unknown Speaker 33:26
I'm missing a game.

Unknown Speaker 33:29
Oh, that's the men's tournament. Okay? I was like, okay, there was something here against

Unknown Speaker 33:34
Puerto Rico, but that was the men's bracket. Yeah, the women's it's just

Unknown Speaker 33:40
Yes, Soviet Union was a runner up in their group to Australia might

Unknown Speaker 33:46
and so, hey, we play against the Soviet Union, the commies

Unknown Speaker 33:54
um.

Unknown Speaker 33:56
And while they have a well, desperate scoring on Soviet Union side with

Unknown Speaker 34:02
basically all their five of their players scoring double digit points, and

Unknown Speaker 34:10
the talisha, To my mighty

Unknown Speaker 34:17
scoring two,

Unknown Speaker 34:20
scoring 14 Points with six rebounds, and

Unknown Speaker 34:25
Natalia Fauci Skye with 16 points.

Unknown Speaker 34:33
I really need to,

Unknown Speaker 34:36
you know, take the time to actually learn how to pronounce these names. I would like to apologize. You just want to pronounce Olga yakovlefa

Unknown Speaker 34:46
to assist,

Unknown Speaker 34:48
but no match against the United States who also defeats them.

Unknown Speaker 34:55
Cynthia Cooper again shows up her and Katrina.

Unknown Speaker 35:00
Claim

Unknown Speaker 35:02
2726 points respectively. Katrina McClain gets the double double with 15 assistant,

Unknown Speaker 35:11
15 rebounds.

Unknown Speaker 35:13
Gosh, I'm tripping over my words a lot. Okay, 15 rebounds, 26 points. And then on the other end, Cynthia Cooper with 27 points and four assists. Three southwards gets six assists

Unknown Speaker 35:28
and 12 points total, and Sidney brown gets seven total rebounds as well.

Unknown Speaker 35:37
All right, and that was 102 88

Unknown Speaker 35:40
um, the last game was 104

Unknown Speaker 35:46
um, 70

Unknown Speaker 35:48
something.

Unknown Speaker 35:50
Okay, no, there was no, okay, yeah, 101 7400 288, that's our second 100 point game almost got through with China, 9479

Unknown Speaker 36:00
now we had just a finals, a rematch against Yugoslavia, who barely beat

Unknown Speaker 36:08
that Australian team, which probably would not have had a run against us. But oh, well,

Unknown Speaker 36:14
um,

Unknown Speaker 36:16
for this Yugoslavia team

Unknown Speaker 36:20
trying to beat

Unknown Speaker 36:24
USA. They can't,

Unknown Speaker 36:28
sorry to kind of spoil it.

Unknown Speaker 36:31
That's so Dania go, which gets a double double, 10 rebounds, 13 points, and the neuro net catch with 23 points and six total rebounds,

Unknown Speaker 36:46
they are just no match for team USA. Teresa Edwards scores 18. Cynthia Cooper scores 11,

Unknown Speaker 36:56
eight rebounds by Sydney Brown

Unknown Speaker 37:01
and and Donovan, Cynthia Cooper, Teresa Edwards, all have multiple steals, and Donovan even has multiple blocks against them. So and Donovan had a good defensive performance to help guide this team led by Theresa Edwards, Katrina McLean, Cynthia Cooper, they get gold again,

Unknown Speaker 37:25
and kind of just

Unknown Speaker 37:28
well meaning. Where are they now for our

Unknown Speaker 37:32
kind of biggest stars, Teresa Edwards, I

Unknown Speaker 37:44
let me see if I can find her name.

Unknown Speaker 37:49
Yeah, Teresa Edwards.

Unknown Speaker 37:54
She hasn't done much since this. She played

Unknown Speaker 37:58
with the Atlantic glory, Philadelphia rage and Minnesota links. When the WNBA was formed, even though she didn't okay WNBA with Minnesota Lynx, she only played one year and then jumped around as an assistant coach.

Unknown Speaker 38:15
Katrina McClain

Unknown Speaker 38:19
did not have much outside of this,

Unknown Speaker 38:25
even though she has played with

Unknown Speaker 38:27
them since she was in the 92 Olympics in Spain and 96 in Atlanta,

Unknown Speaker 38:37
and then the last one, Cynthia Cooper, who is more notable name,

Unknown Speaker 38:45
she was part of that dominant 90 790-899-2000,

Unknown Speaker 38:51
Houston comets run

Unknown Speaker 38:54
even get finalist MVP in all four of Those. I'm just realizing this two time, MVP

Unknown Speaker 39:01
and

Unknown Speaker 39:05
her numbers retired by the case of comments, even though they don't really exist anymore. Her number was also retired by USC, where she played in college and coached for four years.

Unknown Speaker 39:19
And

Unknown Speaker 39:21
I guess that's kind of it on every on, you know, all the good stuff. K yow, she go back to NC State and continue to dominate as a

Unknown Speaker 39:31
head coach there, you know, well as some meow, um,

Unknown Speaker 39:36
also some other notable international competitions. She's been in

Unknown Speaker 39:41
FIBA.

Unknown Speaker 39:43
For women, Goodwill Games in 86

Unknown Speaker 39:48
and pan Americans in 83

Unknown Speaker 39:54
